Changes to Fishing Regs – Region 1

FWP is making some fairly important changes to fishing regulations for the Western District for 2012-2015 that you need to be aware of.  One of the major changes is to move to catch and release only for bull trout in Koocanusa and the Swan River drainage. There are also changes to creel limits and seasons on the Kootenai as well as for Flathead pike fishing. You can see the proposed regulation changes at the FWP website. Comments on the proposed changes can be sent to FWP in Helena until Sept. 19. You can also comment online using the same website.

FWP announced this morning that there will be a public meeting on the proposed fishing regulation changes on Monday Aug. 29 7-9 p.m. at FWP Region 1 Headquarters, 490 N. Meridan Rd. in Kalispell. This was supposed to be a meeting only about hunting seasons, but the last-minute change added fishing regulation changes. For more information, you can take a look at the new Flathead Valley Trout Unlimited blog. They also have a copy of the FWP news release from this morning that I can’t find online yet. If you are concerned about fishing in northwest Montana you should probably review the proposed changes and show up for the meeting if you are able.
