Montana Senate Passes Bill Abolishing Death Penalty

Holy Crap! That can’t be right. Let me check …………………………………………….. Yep, that what the headline says. SB 236 passed the House Judiciary Committee and the first reading by 27-13. The current law reads: “Any resident Montanan has the right, under Montana Law,  to kill anything with four feet and anyone who disagrees with him/her without remorse or retribution.” Now, Dave Wanzenried wants to mess with our sacred traditions.

barberbigRepublican Gary Perry of Manhattan, a supporter of the bill, says: “A sentence of life without parole with the only means of leaving the prison being a body bag and a toe tag is a life sentence, but according to God’s time table.” Perry says that those who are against abortion voting for the bill shows consistency in those beliefs. Let me see, if you are against “God’s timetable” you are for capitol punishment? So, that means that God is for Capitol Punishment? Or, is it just timetables we are against? I’m confused. The anti-abortion bill (SB46) passed the 2nd reading 29-19. So, by my count, that means that there are still a few of Montana Senators who prefer to see Montana children achieve their majority before we cap ’em.

Sure, the death penalty is more expensive, no deterrent to crime, is racially biased and appeals can drag on for years, but doesn’t it just make you feel warm and fuzzy all over when you can lethally inject some bad guy and watch him squirm and die? Especially if he don’t look like you? We currently have two folks in Deer Lodge awaiting execution. Screw “Thou Shalt Not Kill”, these are icky people and we want to see them dead! Hang the bastards! Of course the bill will die in the House and never be heard from again, but it’s kind of nice to  know that there are at least a few compassionate people left in the state.

“We have a criminal jury system which is superior to any in the world; and its efficiency is only marred by the difficulty of finding twelve men every day who don’t know anything and can’t read.” –Mark Twain
